Nathan Anthony Jones is a Poet. Author. Publisher. Teacher. Son. Brother. Father. Friend. Expatriate to be. Man for all seasons.

Jones hails from the Jazz capital, a.k.a., The Big Easy. He exited his mother’s womb making waves the year Jimi freaked Woodstock over 4 decades ago. He is a 7th Ward Bayou Bourbon Street Boogieing Baby born bubbly and bouncing to the African spiritual beats of the bamboulas and banzas of the Congo Square in New Orleans. 

Nathan’s poetry is cayenne pepper; spicy and feisty, political and social, reflective and eclectic and fulfilling like a hot bowl of gumbo and rice and a jar of homemade lemonade on a humid Southern summer afternoon. Raised in Oakland, he is a poet, teacher, publisher and author of several books: Revolutionary Erotica & Other Poems, Black Man in Europe: Micro Volume, Black Man in Europe: The Novel, and Excerpts From My Soul…Read Without Prejudice.

Nathan holds an MFA in Creative Writing/Poetry from Mills College, a TESOL Trinity College Certificate from Oxford House College, Barcelona, an MA in Ethnic Studies (ABT) from San Francisco State University, and a BA in Sociology from California State University, Hayward. Nathan has been in the field of education for over sixteen years. He has taught at Luxor Academy, New Village Public Charter School, Saint Martin de Porres Catholic School and the College of Alameda. Nathan has worked as a Director of Community Services at Marin Academy, an Academic Mentor at James Madison Middle School and Parker Elementary Schools and an Intervention Specialist for the Oakland Public Schools. He has been an Instructor for the Level Playing Field Institute, where he has taught English in the Summer Math and Science Honors Academy (SMASH) program, on the UC Berkeley Campus. Nathan has also tutored multiple subjects to urban youth at the Berkeley Public Library. Nathan teaches College Preparatory English for Holy Names University in conjunction with the Upward Bound Program, where he exclusively provides services for Oakland High School students; specializing in teaching critical reading, writing, poetry, and test taking strategies, ultimately preparing students for SAT I & II Exams and California Exit Exams.
