WE RECOMMEND THIS DMV EVENT: Experience the magic of the 2024 DC Jazz Festival! From Wednesday August 28 to Sunday September 1, 2024, dive into five days of amazing jazz, and immerse yourself in the best jazz performances and vibrant atmosphere of DC. Across all 8 wards of Washington, DC, the DC JazzFest will be celebrating their 20th anniversary with performances on outdoor and indoor stages, showcasing the rich diversity of jazzmusic in a variety of settings, including iconic venues such as Westminster DC , the Australia in the United States , the Carlyle Room, The Kennedy Center Millennium Stage, The Kreeger Museum, Mr. Henry’s, Franklin Square and Takoma Station & culminating on Labor Day weekend at The Wharf. Get ready to groove and make memories.
The signature parade competition in Rio’s Sambadrome Stadium goes on through the entire week, where the top samba troops in the city contend fiercely for the coveted championship crown. Showcased are large, hand-crafted, visually impressive parade floats from each Samba school, led by a beautiful “Samba Queen”. The Samba Queen is accompanied by thousands (yes, thousands) of male & female singers, drummers and dancers in dazzling costumes performing choreographed routines to the Samba beat. It is such an overwhelming, exuberant display of artistry & showmanship – that if you look closely, you’ll may even spot several Samba dancers with absolutely no costume at all! (WHOA)
