City Profile: Rio de Janeiro is located on the southeastern coast of Brazil. Once the capitol until 1960, Brazil’s second largest city has still retained its’ major cultural significance for tourism, trend-setting fashion, jazz, samba, entertainment and art. With over 6 million inhabitants, Rio is one of the most densely populated in the world. It boasts a distinct topography that includes mountains, a lagoon, an urban rain forest and golden sand beaches. Rio’s residents or “Cariocas” define much of what the city is known for – warm hospitality, a passion for life and free-spirited social energy.
Upon arriving in Rio de Janeiro, you’ll want to take in its’ natural settings. Get outdoors – stroll about the diverse neighborhoods and romantic lush green parks. Find the stunning panoramic views that exist throughout the city limits or tan like the natives on one of the 15 popular beaches. The legendary Copacabana beach is always lively, with people sunbathing, surfing, picnicking, playing beach volleyball, soccer & baile funk or bossa nova music blaring in the background. The beach sidewalks are filled with joggers, cyclists, pedestrians, drink stands and peddlers hawking everything imaginable you might need.Ipanema beach, however, is widely known for its exclusive shops, cafes and attraction to the young, fashionable and wealthy. Legend has it that a famous model inspired the popular “Brazilian tanga” (or tiny thong bikini) at this very same beach location. See for yourself! After visiting a beach in Rio, you’ll understand why the endless sunshine and tropical temperatures help sustain the furious beach culture and sizzling nightlife all year-round.
Besides the allure & excitement of Carnival, there’s plenty more to see & do while visiting the city. The list includes the Botanical Gardens, several art displays, cultural museums and landmarks of Brazilian history, shopping for exclusive finds at the Hippie Fair or at boutique and designer shops, Brazilian style pampering at a day spa, wining & dining with the locals, and seeing a live entertainment show. Or make some time for golfing, fishing, hiking, biking, surfing, sailing and even hang gliding! Yes, you can do it all – see why couples, singles and travel enthusiasts alike fall in love with Rio de Janeiro!

If you desire, you can arrange a custom package to fit your budget. Our main travel group will depart/arrive the Eastern US using New York's JFK International Airport or Miami International Airport and you can have our planners coordinate air connections via your city. Our package rates do not cover domestic US flight connections to the departure cities of NYC and Miami from your city.
ABSOLUTELY NOT, Funky People Online does not plan or produce events exclusively for men or any other group. We are a professional, social and travel group network that produces diverse entertainment activities for people of varying backgrounds and a particular mindset. If you're "Funky and progressive in your interests and activities" and like to socialize with similar dynamic personalities from different locales, then you are very welcome to join us. Recent trip have had more women & couples in attendance with our group than guys. View the photo albums on our Media page to see just what we've been doing. You'll surely see someone you know having a great time!

Note that your package costs and minimum deposit payment terms will differ from our NYC departure packages. Your flight times and dates of travel may also differ. The Funky People travel group coordinates vacation travel to worldly locations that appeal to our interest in rich history, and the Afro-Latin-Carribean culture. Brazil is very significant in it's connection to the African-American and Latin culture and religion. It is a recommended experience for anyone of color or of African and Latino descent. Don't go by what you've heard - experience the beauty of this country yourself! Rio de Janeiro has plenty of coastal beaches, restaurants, upscale boutiques, malls and nite life to offer for couples, friends, single women, single men, and groups of any size. As with most developing countries, it is no more or no less safe for foreign travelers than similar destinations in the Caribbean and Central America. For those who have never been to Brazil, it is our personal recommendation that your first experience occur during Carnival - your spirit will forever be changed!
There are always added benefits of traveling with a group besides the obvious security in numbers. Group package pricing buffers the individual or pair of travelers from hidden add-on costs associated with overseas travel. Other bonuses include: always having a group travel representative to assist you if needed, private transfers, private tours with English speaking guides, and vacation group travel experience. The Funky People Online members are well traveled and a really cool bunch as well! Our travel agent, TGW Travel Tours has over 10 years experience in arranging global group tours. This will be the ninth Funky People Online group tour to Brazil following several successful international trips since 2006.
fAre you kidding? The activity highlight for this trip will be Carnival! You'll be smack in the middle of the most electric, energetic annual cultural event on the planet! Travel group activities are scheduled with enough time in the day to explore the allure of Brazil as much as you want on your own. The land package is pretty balanced, but depending your preferences, you can tailor your Carnival experience by adding more activities. The nights can be spent reveling with the locals, while the days leave you with about 12-15 hours of free time (even more if you choose not to sleep, lol) to do as you choose. A typical sightseeing day tour lasts only a half day. (see itinerary tab)
One big misconception about our trip schedule is that it is geared to always keep the travel group together as a whole. That could not be further from the truth. You can do as much OR as little as you wish - there will be lots of cultural entertainment to explore on during Carnival! For your reference in early February 2020, our trip planners will provide all attendees with a final schedule of our Carnival activity plans, hotel neighborhood maps, Brazil Travel Tips & Things to Know, a 2020 Carnival Event Schedule, recommended places to dine, and a list of some really cool things to do & see. However, if you desire to just relax on the beach with a book, shop 'til you drop, or just do nothing at all - we won't be offended! Do your own web research, arrange activities for your very own Brazilian adventure. You can grab plenty of ideas from our Brazil pics and videos.
YES, a valid passport is mandatory to enter Brazil. Your current passport must be valid until at least six months beyond our dates of travel to Brazil. This means that if your US passport expires anytime before Sept 1, 2020, it must be renewed in order to travel with our group to Carnival in February 2020. Check your passport expiration date now! Get this document in order first as you cannot even apply for a Brazil Visa unless your US passport meets Brazil's passport expiration requirements - NO EXCEPTIONS.
Do not delay your trip departure in February 2020 by failing to meet this first requirement. Go to http://travel.state.gov/content/passports to apply for or renew a US Passport. A Brazil Tourist Visa is the second requirement and also mandatory to enter Brazil. Funky People Online, it's agents and vendors will not be responsible for YOU acquiring this crucial document before our trip.
DO NOT WAIT UNTIL FEBRUARY TO GET YOUR VISA. You should begin the Visa process once you have completed your flight plans or full payment for your trip has been made. As of 2018, US citizens can obtain a tourist visa using the *ALL NEW* online eVisa system. Use the link at http://vfsglobal.com/brazil-evisa/. Expect a 4-7 day administrative process at an additional cost of about $40 + processing & shipping to you. If there is a need to visit the Consulate of Brazil, check web listings for the best location near you http://brazil.embassy-online.net/Brazil-Consulate-General-New-York.php. Popular expediting services can also be found online for mistake-free rush processing, if necessary. Our clients have expressed satisfactory results using It's Easy Passport & Visa Service!
NOT LIKELY. Access to find our group even at public venues while in Brazil will be difficult as only FP travelers will know our exact group schedule when they arrive. Admittance on the scheduled day tours, VIP party venues, and other activities in Rio will be exclusive to paid FP travelers. Our priority will be to focus on the travel comfort of our vacation group members. To guarantee Funky People group inclusion, make travel arrangements via our agent, TGW Travel Tours. If you are not familiar with this country we strongly advise you to travel with an experienced group like ours. Your trip will be far more enjoyable, since we've already done this several times before!
Our vacation begins on the ground in Brazil on Friday morning (2/21) and ends Ash Wednesday afternoon (2/26). That is a total of 6 days & 5 nights. In order to arrive in Rio for our hotel check-in on the morning of Friday February 9th, our overnight flight plans are set for a Thursday evening departure (2/20) from the USA. Total travel time with connections between most US cities and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil is generally 10-14 hours each way. Thus, our final day check out is Wednesday afternoon February 26th. Our return flight departs Rio that evening and we actually land back stateside on Thursday morning (2/28).
